Best Juicer For Leafy Greens: The Omega Masticating Juicer

The Omega Masticating Juicer

I started out juicing by making a simple juice that was made of three things: Apples, Celery and Carrots. At the time I was using a centrifugal juicer. These were the most popular models. They used a small spinning disc that had tiny blades on it. These blades tore apart the fruit. The liquid then was filtered into the glass.

It worked fine, but it was so noisy. Also, the machine got really hot. The main thing I didn’t like about it was that it took a while to clean. You had to clean the tiny blades and remove all of the tiny bits of pulp. The company provided a small brush, but it still took a while to clean it. You also had to be careful and not use a sponge because it tore apart the sponge.

The original centrifugal juicer I used ended up being replaced. The motor wore out. I then got a second. Identical. I used that until it also broke. I was determined to get something better for my third model.

I had also started to make more green drinks. I was adding lots of kale into the drinks. I would also use spinach and parsley. When I was researching the different types of juicers I discovered that there was something called an Auger Juicer. This was considered to be  the best juicer for leafy greens because it was able to get much more of the juice out of vegetables like kale, spinach and parsley. It was also a better design for celery.

I ended up getting the Omega. There were a few issues it addressed.

I wanted a quiet juicer. The two previous juicers I had owned were very noisy. They were so loud that you would be well advised to wear earplugs. No kidding. They made a terrible rattle.

Besides being loud and hurting my ears, it also meant I had couldn’t juice anytime I wanted.  If you live in a house, by yourself, then its not an issue. But if you live in an apartment, or with other people, then you will really appreciate how quiet the Omega Juicer is.

  • Low Speed: You want to juice at a low speed. A low speed ensures that you preserve the integrity of the juice. High speeds create heat and destroy the enzymes and nutrients in the juice. The cold press juicers are the best. The Omega uses a powerful motor to slowly squeeze via an Auger.
  • Dual Stage: The leafy greens are first squeezed and then the pulp is squeezed a second time. This means you get the maximum amount of juice.
  • Less Foam: A low speed and auger design means that you will get a nice clean juice. I don’t like a glass of foam. The Omega has always given me a nice clean green juice.
  • Cold Press: I wanted to get all of the benefits from the juice. My last juicer was a centrifugal juicer and I learned that the heat would damage the enzymes. The Omega uses a cold press design.
  • Easy to Clean: I wanted something that was simple to wash. I didn’t want to have to scrub cutting blades or pick through the screens. The Omega can be cleaned simply by running water over the auger and rinsing out the feed chute.

More than juice: Now, this is mostly a bonus. I got the Omega for its juicing capabilities, but I like that it can do a lot more. You can make pasta, vegan ice creams, frozen fruit custards, coconut milk and nut butters.  You can’t do any of these things with a regular juicer because they use blades as opposed to an auger.
