Are Omega Juicers BPA Free and Safe?

The quick answer is yes, Omega juicers are BPA free. It helps to understand a bit about why Omega doesn’t choose to use BPA in their production methods (which I will cover later).

But if you’re only concerned about BPA in your juicers, then feel comfortable that an Omega juicer is not an issue.

Plastic vs BPA: Understanding the Difference

Not all plastics are BPA. There are many types of plastics. BPA is the one that is the cause of most concern because of the fact that it leaches chemicals.

There are many hard plastics that are not BPA. Those plastics are less likely to be any kind issue.

Hard plastic hard hats, plastic buckets, plastic parts on your computer, car, and many other devices are not made with BPA.

BPA can be thought of as a type of plastic used in certain devices and uses. The most common uses for BPA include water bottles. This is why there is a whole movement away from using plastic water bottles.

The longer the exposure of water of liquid to the BPA, the higher the likelihood there is for BPA to leach.

Is BPA A Danger when Juicing?

As I mentioned above, the reason that there is a problem with BPA is that the longer it remains in contact with water or liquid, the higher likelihood there is that it will leach into the food.

If you have a water bottle sitting in your car for months, then that water is likely to be exposed to the BPA.

The reason that there is no real danger when juicing is that the juice is not sitting in the juicer.

The juice is squeezed by an auger (which is made with a BPA free material in the Omega models) and then passes through a BPA Free screen (either mesh metal or a safe material like Ultem which won’t leach).

But here is the thing….the juice passes immediately though the juicer it doesn’t sit there.

The risk when using BPA materials is when you let things sit for days, weeks or months!

The only time you risk BPA when juicing is if you are planning on storing the juice. Many people make juice ahead of time and then store it. If you do, if that is something you are planning on doing, then you will have to make sure you are using a BPA free storage device.

I covered how to store fresh juice in depth in a previous article. If you’re interested, then you can read about how to store fresh juice here and see some of your options for safe juice storage.

Why You Should Avoid BPA When Juicing

You should avoid BPA as much as possible. The fact is that juicing is way down on the list of possible exposure to BPA. If you make your juice at home you will avoid BPA.

If you buy juice in a store that is sold in a bottle, not only are you buying juice where the nutrients are not as good, but you’re getting juice that has been stored in a plastic container which might have BPA.

Making juice at home and drinking it right away saves you that worry. You can drink it right away or you can store the juice in a glass bottle.

Of the risks of BPA, juicing is far down the list.

Why Omega Juicers Do Not Use BPA

Omega Juicers do not use BPA because Omega probably realized that people who want to juice are health conscious. Also, BPA is not the best material to use. It’s not that strong when compared to other stronger and safer materials.

Omega juicers are built to last. I’ve used mine for many years. These are not cheap and easily damaged juicers. BPA is a weak material, as well as being an unhealthy one. In a prior article I wrote about how long Omega juicers last, and part of the discussion was about their strong materials.

It’s simply not useful to use BPA even if you wanted to use it. BPA is more useful, even if its not healthy, when used in disposable types of products such as drinking water bottles.

Yes, as we have discussed, Omega juicers are safe and free of BPA. They are made with stainless steel, safe plastics such as Ultem, and other safe materials.

When you are using an Omega juicer you are not exposed to any BPA parts.

The crucial thing to keep in mind is that it’s not the juicer that you need to be wary of. What you need to be aware of and keep mindful of is that after you have made your juice, you need to store it someplace.

Where you store the juice is important because that is where you potentially might expose it to BPA.

Use a glass bottle. You can find good glass bottles for juice storage, or you could even get a glass water drinking bottle such as this one.

Finally, the juice container that you use to catch the juice from the juicer should be BPA free. I use a simple glass container or large cup that is made of a ceramic material or even a glass material.

Omega juicers don’t have BPA because they are built to last. They are also built to be multifunctional. It’s not just a juicer where you make fruit juice. You can make wheatgrass, hard vegetaebles and carrots, and even nut butters.

I wrote a long piece which covered everyhing you can do with an omega which discusses all of the uses.
