Are Omega Juicers Cold Press Juicers?

Yes, Omega juicers make cold pressed juice. That’s one of the reasons that they are so popular with health-conscious people.

Unlike other brands of juicers, Omega juicers are all designed to use an auger press. These auger presses are what makes cold pressed juice.

Basically, if you see the word “auger” or “masticating” when describing a juicer, then you know that it’s a cold press juicer.

Some brands make both cold press juicer as well as regular juicers (they don’t call them hot press). But Omega as of right now only makes auger style cold press juicers.

What Is “Cold Pressed” Anyway?

So, what’s the big deal with cold pressed juice and juicers anyway? Simple, they produce a higher quality of juice, and they also produce more juice from fruits and vegetables.

The method that cold press juicers use is the squeeze method. Basically what happens here is that you’ll take the fruit or vegetables and put them into the juicer. Then they are slowly pressed and the juice is squeezed or “pressed” out.

This is all done at a very slow speed and creates very little to no heat. This is in direct comparison from high speed juicers which use sharp blades to dice up the fruit into tiny little bits, and catch only the juice that leaks out during this process.

The difference between cold pressed juice and regular juices comes down to a few key items:

  • Cold Press Juicers Produce More Juice
  • Higher Quality Taste- Cold Pressed Juice
  • More Nutrients – This one’s a bit controversial, but most experts err on the side of fresh, cold pressed just as being healthier.
  • Cheaper – You’re not wasting fruit and vegetables!

It’s the same principal when you buy cold pressed olive oil. It’s something that is simply superior to regular machine grinded olives. Likewise, when you’re looking to get the most juice out of a fruit or vegetable, then the most important thing you can do is to use a cold pressed juicer.

You don’t have to use an Omega (though that is the juicer I’ve been using for years, and I do suggest it) but you can’t use a non-auger, non-cold pressed juicer. You just won’t get good results.

Here, for example, is a great entry level cold press juicer made by Omega.

Do All Juicers Make Cold Pressed Juice?

No, and this is an important point to remember. Not all juicers are cold pressed, and I’d venture to say that not all cold pressed juicers are well made (I have a list of my top picks for juicers here).

But the simple fact is that you need to be aware that you can’t just go into a Costco or Wallmart and pick up a juicer. The odds are that it’s not a cold pressed juicer. Most likely, it is going to use a heat producing method that involves small blades.

So, skip that nonsense and just order a good auger juicer that can make cold pressed juices.

Why Use Cold Pressed Juicers?

So, why use cold pressed juicers?

In case you skipped the above sections, I’ll do a fast recap:

  • Healthier Juice
  • More Juice
  • Cheaper Juice
  • Better Tasting

So, it hits all areas. If you’re someone who is super cost conscious, then you might be pleased to learn that cold pressed juicers extract so much more juice the regular juicers.

The simple fact is that you will get more juice from a cold pressed juicer. So, instead of buying 3 lemons, and getting a ton of wet pulp you have to toss, you can use one clean organic lemon and get as much juice.

And if you’re not concerned about cost, then you should be concerned about health and taste. Because cold pressed juicers simply taste better and are healthier. There’s no other type of juicer that will make a fresher type of juice.

It’s important to remember that juicing doesn’t destroy nutrients, it is more of an issue that fast juicing with blades creates heat, which can. Cold pressed juicers on the other hand, are not going to damage the nutrients with excessive heat.

How Can You Tell A Cold Pressed Juicer That’s Not Omega?

Simple, again, all you have to do is look at the description and make sure that the juicer is an auger style juicer. You don’t want to use anything else.

Don’t fall for adjectives like: “fast” or “quick” or anything else. If the juicer doesn’t advertise as having an auger, then you’re going to want to pass it on.

While you might be tempted to buy one of the large juicers that you see in juice shops, remember that these are designed to be fast. They are not designed to be efficient, or produce the best tasting juice or even healthy juice.

Juice shops who buy large blade style juicers do so in order to expedite their orders. They want to have the ability to make a juice and then sell it immediately to order to whichever customer came into the store. It’s not in their profit margins to make slow pressed juice.

The only time you’ll get that is the pre-made juices where stuff is pre-juiced and put in bottles.

So, if you’re looking for a juicer to buy for your home stick with one that is a cold press, auger style juicer. I’ve got a rather comprehensive review here if you’re looking for more in depth details.
